Stations of
the Cross Media Release Reviewed by Colleen McGuiness-Howard. Newly
emerged Perth Catholic Productions has launched its first offering to the Catholic
world with its Stations of the Cross CD and tape. Its
producers under Rosary Evangelization Australia are well known for their
internationally acclaimed Rosary for Children and Rosary for Youth
CD's and tapes. This first offering
by Perth Catholic Productions of the Stations of the Cross with its 15
stations, is certain to be equally as well received because it is quite
unique in its fresh presentation and woven through with original music and
lyrics. A Catholic
priest takes the listener through the meditations which are thought
provoking, and although conscience piercing, they are hope filled. In
accompanying the young female narrator through the Walk of the Way, I feel
Jesus' agony as he falls three times with an already bruised and brutally
assaulted body, but rises up again because of His commitment to do the will
of the Father. This, in
order to accomplish the sacrifice of His innocence for our sinfulness by the
final indignity, injustice, and total giving in excruciating pain in his last
drop of blood and final breath to atone for my sins to God His Father. In
taking part in the Way of the Cross so realistically but gently presented, I
became increasingly conscious of all the times I had personally nailed Jesus
to the Cross with sins committed throughout my life, and keenly aware that
those who drove in the nails, were no more guilty than I have been. It is
beneficial for one's conscience to listen to the Stations of the Cross because
society would lead us in a different direction than that which our Catholic
faith dictates. A society
which permits and indeed encourages us to do anything we want to - if we can
get away with it - and with society's frighteningly slipped standards, we
usually can. The listener
is given a whole range of areas highlighting everyday failings
which we regard as being acceptable, but which we are reminded of, are not in
God's eyes. The Stations
of the Cross is non-accusative but nevertheless points out the obvious
disparity in our doings and dealings with what God expects of us. Significantly,
the priest shows how Christ's tottering, staggering, falling and incredibly
painful rising to His feet under the weight of the Cross, equates to our own
life's journey, and that those who follow Christ, must equally take up their
Cross and follow in His footsteps and His example, to accomplish the will of
the Father. The Stations
of the Cross, which is an excellently produced, high impact, spiritually
directive production, has been given the imprimatur of His Grace, Archbishop
Barry Hickey of Perth. |
